About

About me

10+ years building enterprise-scale infrastructure that powers millions of users.

Background

I'm a Staff Engineer and Cloud Architect. My work spans DevOps, platform engineering, cloud architecture, and increasingly, AI/ML infrastructure.

I've architected and operated systems handling 50TB+ daily traffic, built observability platforms ingesting 5TB+ logs per day, and led cloud migrations for enterprises with hundreds of services.

Currently, I'm focused on the intersection of traditional infrastructure and AI — tool-using agents and the platform work they demand: typed tool schemas, capability scoping, sandboxing, and the authorization questions MCP is standardizing. The interesting problem in 2026 isn't what a model knows, it's what it's allowed to do.

Engineering philosophy

Modern practices for reliable, scalable, secure infrastructure

Infrastructure as Code First

  • 100% reproducible infrastructure
  • Version controlled everything
  • Immutable infrastructure patterns

Security by Design

  • Zero-trust architecture
  • Secrets management automation
  • Compliance as code

AI-Augmented Operations

  • Intelligent alerting & anomaly detection
  • Predictive scaling
  • Automated incident response

Cost-Optimized Engineering

  • FinOps best practices
  • Resource right-sizing
  • Spot instance optimization

* c4551db refactor: full overhaul — 190 tests, staff repositioning (tag: v2.0)

commit c4551dbd055ad0c7e0fdc99f565aa42fe3acaba7

Date: 2026-08

Rebuilt every page on a shared composite system with a terminal command palette.

Locked behavior in 190 tests across unit, DOM, and workerd suites.

Repositioned the story for staff platform and AI infrastructure roles.

* 629ee05 feat: dillonbrowne.com — edge-rendered portfolio with AI copilot (tag: cloudflare)

commit 629ee05e446836e3d5923a556f3dba42ab93300a

Date: 2025-10

Single Cloudflare Worker serving static assets and SSR from 300+ locations.

Workers AI copilot with retrieval over a build-time knowledge base.

Sub-100ms responses at the edge; rate-limited, gateway-metered AI spend.

* a6cc66b feat: knowledge-base automation — semantic search over the docs

commit a6cc66b9293055e604a063ccb66c36640841ac1a

Date: 2024-11

Vector-indexed documentation with consistency checks across repos.

Automated updates from code changes; 80% faster information retrieval.

Cut onboarding time in half.

* bbe56f7 feat: retrieval platform — context lookups under 100ms (tag: ai-platform)

commit bbe56f7ba5f614726d95eeb302d0e5c36daa0cca

Date: 2024-05

Hybrid vector + keyword retrieval serving production query traffic.

Caching layer cut inference cost by 60%.

Streaming responses with observability on every call.

* f6b65ec perf: x86 → ARM64 fleet migration

commit f6b65ecb959c2bd2e8d266cd970e7a578fd817f1

Date: 2023-07

Converted x86 workloads to ARM64 with full compatibility.

Cut infrastructure cost by nearly 40% at equal or better performance.

* 5eb032d ci: consolidate pipelines onto GitHub Actions

commit 5eb032df7ce61f234079cb7874348d21b51db6b8

Date: 2022-03

Migrated a zoo of CI/CD systems into one standardized build framework.

Reduced cost, streamlined releases, raised developer throughput.

Go-based internal utilities automated the long tail of team toil.

* 9d92451 feat: load-test rig — K6 on K3s at 100GB/s

commit 9d9245195ccc79b17d8bc634a51b211ddd5cc61f

Date: 2021-08

Kubernetes-orchestrated K6 fleet generating 100GB/s of load.

Emulated real-world traffic spikes to prove reliability and scale before launch.

* 54261e6 refactor: CloudFormation → Terraform (tag: terraform)

commit 54261e69d9bfdff9e07ef59b486d91c6eeb0399c

Date: 2020-04

Converted AWS CloudFormation stacks to vendor-neutral Terraform.

Unlocked integrations beyond AWS with reviewable, reproducible infra.

* e4a59fd feat: CDN build-out — 50TB/day across hundreds of domains

commit e4a59fd1fd7c0efdfa4432419b114dcebebabde8

Date: 2018-10

Architected a content delivery network sustaining 50TB of daily traffic.

Slashed origin hits and improved page load times for hundreds of domains.

* 37442a9 feat: DataDog → self-hosted ELK at 5TB+/day

commit 37442a9a2113d105d140c9063196399229372a13

Date: 2017-03

Replaced volume-priced SaaS with a self-hosted ELK cluster, built in reproducible Terraform + Ansible.

Ingests 5TB+ of logs per day and scales the cluster to usage.

Halved observability spend by moving to fixed-cost infrastructure.

* 7d5dd30 init: DillonBrowne LLC — independent infrastructure engineering (tag: v1.0)
